Michelle Obama is not a member of the star system, she is not a rock star, neither an actress nor a singer, but I can certainly say I am a fan of her. (When in college, as the subject of my final dissertation, I chose her for her person, her role and how much and how she was influential during her husband’s election for the first and the second term) For the final essay of my college I wrote about her, her role and how much and how she was influential during her husband’s election for the first and the second term.
I read up on her, I wrote about her and I began being passionate about. She is a woman who cares a lot about important topics such as nutrition, environment and empowerment of women, and with her actions, small or big, she can influence young women of today who all now need someone to inspire them, a genuine and true model of woman.
And when she does it (when she inspires), she does it with style, indeed, with a unique style, with a charm and elegance that belong only to some style icons like Jackie Kennedy who made history with her suits.
It can be said that Michelle Obama has made history in many different ways, certainly referring to First Ladies, she is the one who, not only politically and socially, but also with fashion, was the boldest and most “courageous”. She knows to be true and authoritative without having to wear masculine clothes and knows how to be sexy and elegant without uncovering too much.
She could fit brand of high fashion, but also independent brands to help them grow and to have visibility, she wore clothes bought on Asos showing that each of us can find elegance at a price of 50 Dollars, or better, that elegance does not belong to the dress you decide to buy and how much you’re willing to spend, but the poise (PORTAMENTO)and the message you want to convey with that piece.
And Michelle was the first to wear, in ceremonies of great political importance, dresses designed by non-American designers, to emphasize its openness to the world, to show how we are all necessary and useful to all.
The American people would have liked to see her run for the presidency but she preferred to go back to what she would like to call again “normal life”, a life where she will finally feel free to be able to do something that she missed a lot in the last 8 years: to drive her car, listening to music and singing her heart out!
About her we will not forget many things but fashion certainly can thank her for the way she has always celebrated, honored and respected it.
And now that she is leaving the White House in two months, we collected all the best looks which made, in their own way, the “costume history” of the White House. And we can say that because, throughout her clothes she always wanted to convey a clear message to the world: never follow the stereotypes and make sure that every decision you make to communicate a message is made to give you confidence, power and independence. Although to begin to do this you may only begin by a simple nice pair of shoes.
