What
Red Carpet Look for Lily Collins.
When
Met Gala 2018, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the 7th of May 2018.
Inspiration
“The first thing I thought about was amplifying Lily’s skin, to make it feel like moonlight on marble, almost a matte luminescence. When I heard the theme I knew I wanted to lean towards the dark arts, the most gothic aspect of the theme. Lily is so classically beautiful that you can do just about anything on her and it translates, it still looks elegant. I was thinking about heavenly bodies and celestial inspiration and the Virgin Mary and Our Lady of Sorrows. It all culminated in this wistful, romantic, slightly whimsical look.”

The Skin

The first step to a bright and long-lasting makeup is prepping the skin thoroughly. For ensuring a perfect base, Fiona used the Lancôme Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate to prep Lily’s skin.
As for the base, Fiona used the Lancôme foundation Le Tient Idole Ultra 24H Longwear Foundation in the shade 110 Ivoire C, then concealed with the Lancôme Effacernes in 110 Ivoire. The base was important in this look since it needed to be pale and flawless to give the idea of witch-y perfection and to let the eye makeup stand out. For a matte finish, Fiona used the Lancôme Absolue Powder in Ecru Light.
For a further kick of light, on Lily’s skin and decolletè, Fiona used the Lancôme Tient Idole Ultra Custom Highlighting Drops in Champagne Glow and the Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in Shimmering Buff, adding that brightness and that shiny allure worthy of a real holy figure!

The Cheeks

Lily’s skin was ivory and there was no blush on her cheeks: that made her look even more ethereal and gothic.
The contour and highlight were subtle, using the Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in Shimmering Buff for highlighting Lily’s cheekbones and the Lancôme Le Duo contouring and highlighting stick in Ivoire for contouring and adding drama to the minimal, but impressive base.
The Eyes

The eyes were undoubtedly the best and most stunning part of the entire look, matching creativity with the theme of the night. Lily’s full brows, one of her signature traits, were groomed and defined with a transparent gel (using the Lancôme Sourcils Styler in Transparent).
For the eyeshadow, Fiona used the Lancôme Color design eyeshadows in Smokey Brown and Volcano Shimmer. The dark metallic tones matched the black glitters that she used under and above Lily’s eyes, creating tiny, shiny triangles that looked like tears.

The entire look was made even more occult and dark by the bright red single tear on Lily’s cheek, that made her look like a real icon of holy and esoteric beauty.
To further dramatize the gaze, Fiona swiped a coat of Lancôme Hypnose Drama in Excessive Black on Lily’s lashes.
The Lips

The finishing touch was the lipstick: Fiona created a lovely pout with Lancôme Purple Onyx lipgloss. The glossy finish lightens up the dark plum shade of the lipgloss, creating the perfect balance and avoiding to make it look “too much”, compared to the dark eye makeup.
