Last night all the spotlights were on the red carpet of the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, where the 91st Oscars took place– the most important event of the year that marks the end of the Awards Season.
Although the majority pointed as winners “Roma” or “The Favourite” as Best Pictures, the award instead went to “Green Book.” Rami Malek, Olivia Colman, Mahershala Ali and Regina King were the winners in the categories of Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress, while Alfonso Cuarón triumphed in three categories (Best Director, Best Foreign Film and Best Cinematography) and Spike Lee couldn’t contain the joy for his first statuette (Best Adapted Screenplay).
During the ceremony, which didn’t have a host, there were many remarkable moments, such as the performance of Queen and Adam Lambert that made the audience dance and sing along their “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.” More intimate and touching instead was the duet between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, who sung “Shallow” (Best Original Song); The singer and actress, with the statuette in her hands, said: “It’s not about winning. But what it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion. And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.” The kiss between Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton will go down as one of the most romantic moments in Oscars’ history; the actor dedicated to his girlfriend some wonderful words, “You are the heart of this film, you are beyond immensely talented and you have captured my heart.”
Like all the awards ceremonies, even the Oscars were a blaze of beautiful stylistic choices: the long dresses were the true protagonists, along with pastel colors and bright details. An example is the silver reflections of Emilia Clarke’s Balmain dress, the bright spots of the Rodarte creation in aquamarine worn by Yalitza Aparicio, and the richly decorated Louis Vuitton dress flaunted by Emma Stone (matchy with her new hair color).
Charlize Theron, Laura Harrier and Lucy Boynton were perfect as always in their haute couture creations: Boynton deserves the statuette as best dressed not only of the Oscars but of the entire award season as well! An honorable mention goes to men who, besides the classic suits, have been able to dare with unexpected looks, as Pharrell Williams, Jason Momoa or Mahershala Ali did.
If elegance was the biggest trend on the red carpet, during the after-party there were instead a lot of original and perhaps more “free” choices, especially in total black, but still enriched with bright details. Emma Roberts and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were gorgeous with their sparkling looks, while Chrissy Teigen opted for small pink feathers. But what were our favorite looks from the Oscars 2019?
