November 25th, 2016: save the date.
Finally we can close a chapter of our lives (television speaking) that has been pending from the distant 2007, when Rori and Lorelai Gilmore left us a bit (let’s say it) disappointed.
Our hearts filled with joy when Netflix announced the “final event” of this great adventure that accompanied us for years: “Gilmore Girls” will return with a revival whose title will be “Gilmore Girls: A year in the life“. Indeed the episodes will be four, each associated with a season of the year: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, and they will be each an hour and a half long, resembling more of a small film.
Here’s a round-up of the best “lessons” from Gilmore Girls, because years later, their tips are as relevant and relatable as ever! And, most of all, they taught us that we can be winners even if we fall, the important thing is to have somebody that helps you, no matter what 🙂
________
1) Don’t forget an extra dash of hairspray
________
Right before the school dance, Lorelai helps Rory to touch-up her updo with a final spritz of hairspray. Just don’t be like Sookie, who accidentally holds the bottle upside-down and gets it in her eyes 😉
________
2) Even bad boy love reading books
________
Jesse, Luke’s nephew and Rory’s ex boyfriend (hopefully soon not be “Ex” anymore, we are team Jesse), a very taciturn and introverted guy, liked to exchange books with Rory, for then talking for hours about them. Thank to the ever-present books for giving us this beautiful love story.
________
3) Don’t be late at the weekly dinner with your grandparents
________
Not only because it is impolite but also because, with grandparents like Rory’s, the third degree would be inevitable.
________
4) Don’t be afraid of audacious food combinations
________
Lorelai and Rori taught us that we can eat french fries with coffee and that nachos, tacos, pizza and ice-cream must be within reach.
________
5) Coffee is never too much
________
Thanks to its coffee, Luke’s Diner has remained for all seasons a safe place: coffee was never missing and everybody abused of it, although Luke does keeps to remember to the girls that with the tenth cup, maybe they are exaggerating. Maybe.
________
6) A new hairstyle help you to look more “mature”
________
During her college years at Yale, Rory’s new hairdo helped her look much older and collegiate. It’s crazy how much bangs can change your appearance.
________
7) If you don’t have headbands, you can improvise with bandanas
________
Lorelai teach us how to keep our hair away from the face and to stick with a cool look.
________
8) Books are never too much
________
If you are passionate about literature like Rory you can’t give up to have at least three books in your bag. You never know: maybe you can find a moment of relax when you can immerge in you reading your favorite adventure.
________
9) The floor is a good hideout
________
Over the seasons Lane, the Rory’s best friend since childhood, taught us how to hide acts of rebellion by strict mothers: she hides CDs under the floor or dresses in layers to hide T-shirts named “evil” by her mother.
________
10) Bad girls wear red nail polish
________
Before Rory’s first day at Chilton, Lorelai insists on painting her toenails red: “Private school girls are bad girls and bad girls always wear red nail polish”. Only Rory knows that her toes are that color, but it’s still a bold move.
________
11) The Adidas Gazzelle and All Star are the ideal shoes.
________
In the first seasons those are Rory’s favorite shoes, she wears them with the school uniform, to hang out or to go to Luke’s Diner with Lorelai.
________
12) The answering machine speaks the voice of truth
________
Elusive chatter, shopping list, pieces of advice and bad news: the answering machine on the show was a must. It enclosed secrets, memos or a nice way to avoid tricky conversations.
________
13) Hugging a pillow might be comforting
________
When coming home worn out by the schoolwork or by relationship problems, both Rory and Lorelai would find refuge in their bedrooms, and unload their heavy hearts while hugging their favorite pillow.
________
14) Only fruity lipgloss
________
A typical Lorelai advice when Rory was about to go on a date: never live without a layer of fruity lipgloss.
________
15) Moms don’t only exist to argue with
________
The Gilmore girls taught us that you can be complicit with your mom, comrades in arms, outfit, binges and crying sessions advisors.
________
16) Movie night is sacred
________
Once a week Rory and Lorelai used to have their movie night ritual: one sofa, free comments, popcorns and never ever missing it!
________
17) If you enjoying studying it doesn’t mean that you are a loser
________
Rory is the proof that having a goal, studying to reach it and behind dedicated to your work does not mean that you have to give up everything else. You can still live many adventures, have friends and date someone.
________
18) The kitchen is a safe heaven
________
When you are feeling sad, don’t despair! Find a place that feels like Sookie’s kitchen, every time that Lorelai was feeling blue she’d go to her friend’s kitchen where in between tasty food and cheerful chatter she’d find her way back.
________
19) Talking really fast in order to avoid troublesome questions
________
Lorelai, more than anyone, taught us that talking fast can wear you down. And she, the master of gift for gab, avoided so many inconvenient questions and useless discussions.
________
20) It’s never too late
________
It’s never too late to go back to your studies (as Lorelai did after years of work); it’s never to late to build your own business (after the fire at the Independence Inn where both Lorelai and Sookie were employed, they decided to open one on their own, the Dragonfly Inn); it’s never to late to change your mind on something (Rory decided – against her mother’s wish – to go to Yale after years spent thinking of going to Harvard).
And, as the new poster says: Live more, Laugh more, Eat more, Talk more, Gimore.
