As for every season, the march of fashion begins with the City of New York: the most cosmopolitan, noisy, high, colorful, dark, exciting, exhausting and crazy city that fashion could ever desire. New York has inspired a thousand dresses and colors for then kicking off the dance: from top brands like Ralph Lauren or Monique Lhullier, to the more “low cost” Self Portrait and it also gives space to new brands, more or less emerging as Monse that we especially adore for the originality and at the same time ability to weave dreamy fabrics with the most practical ones.
You can define the New York Fashion Week as the greatest mixture of styles, and we believe that in this season, more than ever, Fashion has shown us the most romantic clothes, comparable only to the multitude of flowers that bloom in Central Park in spring; geometric shapes that seem to be a tribute to the harshness of the city; practical clothing, elegant, simple but created with very refined fabrics that seem to sum up all of Manhattan tireless workers in a unique style; and then we finish with the looks which perhaps are the more sporty and hipster that could “represent” Brooklyn.
But who really stole our hearts?
At this point we cannot but speak of Rodarte that as always manages to combine a thousand fabrics not only in harmony but with an unmistakable style; we then worshiped the velvety texture presented by Mrs. Beckham who will never cease to amaze us with her combination of simplicity and elegance; Tibi is fresh, young and it’s capable to bring to the runway a pair of jeans and to make them the most desirable piece of next season; at the same time it is impossible to forget the Jason Wu black gown made of transparent fabric and thousands of brightly colored flowers; and you may as well start with the bets: which one of the many outfits brought to light by Marchesa will be worn at the Oscars next year? Or at the Golden Globes? We feel like the designer wanted to represent with each outfit a nymph, a fairy, a goddess…she always finds the way to make a woman’s body a canvas for her beautiful paintings!
