Living both in the ancient (truly ancient) past and somewhere in time, in Space, on a place called Krypton? Only Aaron Pierre could! The actor stars in “Britannia” as one of the Romans, Antonius, and in “Krypton” as Dev-Em, a commander in the Kryptonian army.
Enjoy our interview with Aaron, in which he told us about his latest roles, what’s coming up next (be ready to book a seat at the Shakespeare’s Globe) and some more curiosities!
What or who inspired you to become an actor?
Firstly, my parents. They have always encouraged me to pursue my passions. My dad is also an actor. Seeing his work has greatly inspired me. My mum is not an actress but has also greatly inspired me. Her outlook on life is beautiful. They’re the best!
Before the role of Dev-Em in “Krypton,” were you a fan of Superman? What about comics in general?
Yes, I have been a fan of Superman and comics for a long time. I have always enjoyed immersing myself in the stories and investing in the characters, their beliefs, their inhabitance. The first comic I owned was “JLA Avengers” released in 2004, I still have it! The first line reads ‘Greetings, gang, and welcome to the ultimate superhero battle – the one comics fans have been awaiting for decades’ I was hooked from there!
How did you prepare for your roles in “Krypton” and “Britannia”?
For “Britannia,” I prepared by reading about the history of Britain and the Roman army. I also read tons of myths. For “Krypton” I prepared by reading comics, watching films/interviews relating to Superman and his home planet Krypton. These things hugely assisted in discovering who my characters are. I also did large amounts of physical training, lead by the incredible stunt teams. They pushed us all beyond where we thought our capabilities were!
If given the chance, would you travel to another planet or you rather travel through time?
Travel through time. I’d travel to a Jazz bar in the 1950s to see Ella Fitzgerald perform live!
What’s next for Aaron?
I am currently in rehearsals for “Othello” at Shakespeare’s Globe. I am loving every moment!
Now, for the Fun Part…
Must have on set: Script!
Epic fail on the job: It was the first scene on my first ever job and I began the scene before the director had called ‘action’. Rough.
Happy place: The park.
Favorite accent: New York.
Movie then and now: Then: “The Lion King.” Now: “Fences.”
Favorite Word: Cake.
Who you’d rather be: I would like to play Muhammad Ali. He has inspired me in a multitude of ways.
Favorite quote: “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” – Muhammad Ali
The last series you binge-watched: “Ozark.”
What have you already crossed from your Bucket List: Visiting Cabo de Gata, Spain.
I Dreamed a Dream: I would love to work on a project with Ava DuVernay.
The most beautiful thing while filming… “Krypton” and “Britannia”? Everyone involved, cast, crew and production. Everyone is so fiercely passionate about these projects and the story they are telling. This makes for a perfect creative environment.
Ops! Break Time:
